The Struggles of Managing a High-Stakes Online Meeting!

Have you ever felt like you completely bombed a presentation? Well, that was me just recently, and I’m here to share my journey and how I plan to improve!

So, picture this: a crucial online meeting with 15 to 16 participants from all over the world. Different accents, different cultures, and I was supposed to lead it! Sounds daunting, right? And guess what? I didn’t manage it as well as I’d hoped. As Maya Angelou once said, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” I think I might have bombed the delivery, but I really hope I made them feel good!

You know, there’s always a silver lining. This experience made me realize the importance of preparation. I need to step up my game and become more fluent in English, maybe even dreaming in English! Imagine how much easier it would be to express yourself if you could think in English before you speak! Wouldn’t that be amazing? Just like the famous author Ernest Hemingway said, “There is no friend as loyal as a book.” So, let’s read more and practice more to build that fluency!

Now, here’s what I want you to do! If you’re in a similar situation, don’t just sit there feeling defeated. Take action! Here’s a step-by-step plan:

1. Prepare Thoroughly:

Before your next meeting, spend adequate time preparing. Write down your main points and practice them out loud. The more familiar you are with your content, the more confident you’ll feel!

2. Practice Speaking:

Dedicate at least 15 minutes a day to speak English. You can read books, narrate your day, or even talk to yourself! This will help make your speech more fluid.

3. Join a Group:

Consider joining a conversation group or language exchange. Surrounding yourself with others who are also learning can provide motivation and practice opportunities.

4. Record Yourself:

Try recording your practice sessions. Listening back will help you identify areas for improvement.

5. Seek Feedback:

Don’t hesitate to ask friends or colleagues for feedback on your speaking. Constructive criticism can help you grow!

6. Stay Positive:

Most importantly, remember that everyone makes mistakes! Learn from them and keep pushing for ward. It’s all part of the journey to improvement!
